LERU: focus on excellence
Horizon2020 is the European Union’s research and innovation programme. Now that this programme has almost ended, it is time to think about its successor. Excellence must be at the forefront of this new programme, says the League for European Research Universities (LERU).
LERU believes that the new programme (which goes by the name of KP9) should be awarded a budget of 120 billion euros, and that the budgets of the European Research Council (ERC) and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions in particular should increase. In its position paper Beyond the Horizon: LERU’s views on the 9th Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
LERU also presses for a different approach to collaborative research and innovation activities, calling for a single programme that offers more opportunities for pioneering cross-border research. It also notes that it is important to balance activities in all phases of research (early to advanced stage).
