Maarten Aalbers presented during the “State Aid Compliance Seminar” in The Hague
On 10 May Maarten Aalbers, PhD-fellow and research staff member at the Europa Institute, participated in the “State Aid Compliance Seminar”, hosted by Europa decentraal, the EU law center for local and regional authorities in the Netherlands. Maarten Aalbers presented on the interaction between EU competition law and EU state aid law enforcement mechanisms.
During the State Aid Compliance Seminar Paul Zondag, the principal legal advisor on state aid at Europa decentraal, welcomed international students from Leiden University, legal experts and policy officers of several branches of government. Mr. Zondag provided some insights in the State Aid Modernisation and the application of the General Block Exemption Regulation. Asa Schuster,senior legal advisor on state aid for Europa decentraal, guided the participants through the compliance strategies for state aid provisions for sustainability, renewable energy and land sales. Maarten Aalbers presented his views on the enforcement priorities and procedures. He focusses on the convergence towards investigative powers for the Commission under the regulations 1/2003 and 2015/1589. Furthermore his presentation provided insight in Commission guidance for the application of the effect on trade under article 107 TFEU compared to the effect on trade analysis under article 101 and 102 TFEU.
