e-SIDES holds its first workshop at the CEPE/Ethicomp conference (Turin June 7th)
e-Sides is a Horizon 2020 project which aims at mapping ethical, legal, societal and economic challenges of the big data technologies. eLaw- Center for Law and Digital Technologies- is one of the members of the e-SIDES research consortium and its role within the project is to develop the systematic analysis of the ethical and legal issues triggered by big data.
On June 7th, e-SIDES will hold its first workshop within the framework of international conference on ‘Values in Emerging Science and Technology’, co-organized by CEPE (Computer Ethics Philosophical Enquiry) and Ethicomp at the University of Turin. The conference will gather the international community of scholars and technologists, including computer professionals and business professionals from industry.
The goal of this first e-SIDES event will be to present the refined research framework of the project and, in particular, discuss with the participants the list of identified fundamental ethical, legal and societal values relevant in the context of big data. The speakers from the eLaw department at Leiden University, Fraunhofer and IDC will discuss their respective insights on how big data technologies challenge such values.
This interactive workshop will on the one hand raise the awareness about the project and, on the other, seek to receive some feedback (via the online voting app) from the wide spectrum of participants regarding the presented list of big data issues.
