International students sing “Wilhelmus” at Introduction Morning Faculty of Humanities
Wednesday morning, the faculty was teeming with newly arrived international students, who will be starting their master’s programme or exchange programme next week. Over 150 students took part in the Introduction Morning of the Faculty of Humanities.
Welcome and Wilhelmus
During the introduction the students were welcomed by prof. dr. Mirjam de Baar on behalf of the Faculty Board and received many useful tips from her for a successful study at Leiden University. Dr. Olga van Marion gave a vibrant and inspiring mini lecture about the history and background of our national anthem, “Help the Dutch understand their national anthem, because they don’t understand it!” Even the Dutch learned more about their own anthem and at the end all students sang the Wilhelmus!
Programme
Students were also instructed about the University Library, uSis, Blackboard, and the Assessor Aurélie van ’t Slot informed the students about the organizational structure of the faculty and the study associations. The other parts of the programme were presented by the Humanities International Office, the University Library and coordinator of studies Esther Buizer. At the end of the programme the students went on a short tour around the faculty buildings under guidance of students of the study association HSVL and had a very typical Dutch lunch at the Arsenaal.
OWL
The Introduction Morning is part of the Orientation Week Leiden (OWL), which took place from January 24th until January 27th.
