Freek Janssen wins award for best European Young Medicinal Chemist
Freek Janssen, a PhD-student in the department of Molecular Physiology, has received an award for the best oral presentation during the Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium organised by the European Federation of Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-YMCS’16). Freek Janssen presented his work on “Development of Highly Selective and Reversible Diacylglycerol Lipase Inhibitors”.
The research was performed in the Chemical Biology cluster of the Leiden Institute of Chemistry under the supervision of Dr. Mario van der Stelt. Freek discovered drug-like molecules that specifically target enzymes involved in the formation of the endogenous cannabinoid 2-AG. He was the Dutch representative (nominated by the Farmacochemistry section of the KNCV) and won in the YMCS competition with other prize winners from national young medicinal chemist meetings in Europe and communications selected from submitted abstracts. The award covers an invited oral communication at the next EFMC meeting in Vienna 2017 (EFMC-ASMC’17) and is sponsored by a travel grant from Actelion.
The EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium is an initiative of the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry. The goal of the symposium is to create a network of young European investigators and to share scientific work with peers and inspiring leaders in the field of Medicinal Chemistry.
