We celebrate Leids Ontzet, the Relief of Leiden, on Monday 3 October. This means that all University buildings in Leiden will be closed. The University buildings on Campus The Hague will be open, but there will be no classes.
Libraries and Student Affairs
The libraries and Student Affairs Front Office in Leiden will also be closed. The University Library will close at 6.00 p.m. on Sunday 2 October. However, the Library Learning Centre on Campus The Hague is open on Monday.
About Leids Ontzet
October 3 is a public holiday in Leiden: Leids Ontzet. This commemorates the lifting of the Spanish siege on 3 October 1574. The story goes that William of Orange bestowed the University on the city as a reward for its brave resistance.
