Freya Baetens presents at the 77th ILA Conference in Johannesburg
Between 7 and 11 August, Freya Baetens gave three presentations at the 77th International Law Association (ILA) Biennial Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the theme of 'International Law and State Practice: Is there a North/South Divide?'
Within the framework of her membership of the ILA Committee on the Role of International Law in Sustainable Natural Resource Management for Development (chaired by Prof. Nico Schrijver), Freya Baetens offered an update on the current state of negotiations of the EU Free Trade Agreements with regard to the sustainable use of natural resources, production and consumption patterns as well as labour norms.
Secondly, she presented, together with Prof. Cynthia Lichtenstein, the report of the Study Group on State insolvency, at a meeting of the Committee on International Monetary Law, chaired by Sir William Blair.
Thirdly, as a rapporteur of the Study Group on Preferential Trade and Investment Agreements (chaired by Prof. Peter-Tobias Stoll and Prof. Andreas Ziegler) she put forward, together with her co-rapporteur, Prof. Cristian Delpiano, the final report, which represents the result of several years of work of the Study Group.
