Rubicon grant for Sara Polak
The NWO has awarded Sara Polak a Rubicon grant. In September, she will start a 12-month period of research at the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture at Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany.
Ghosts from the past
The Rubicon grant will support the project From Dormant to Disruptive Memory: Ebola in the American Imagination. Located at the intersection of postcolonial and memory studies, the project studies online, politically incorrect discourse on Twitter regarding the Ebola outbreak in West-Africa. It aims to show that potentially disruptive events can cause the recurrence of cultural ghosts from America's days of slavery.
Rubicon
The NWO's Rubicon programme allows recently graduated scientists to gain experience at a foreign top institute. This is an important step up in a scientific career.
