3500 students to take part in El CID 2016
A record number of students are due to part in the EL CID introduction week starting 15 August. For five days, first-year students from Leiden University and the Hogeschool Leiden will get to know one another, the city, their study programme and student life in Leiden.
During the EL CID week, around 3,500 students, 600 mentors and 250 crew members will paint the town red. It's the time when new students really get to know Leiden. A huge range of events are being organised: from a culture tour to the faculty day, and from the Leiden Freshers Festival to the information fair. It's a varied programme with something for everyone.
From information fair to Route 16
The week starts with an information fair where participants get a taste of all there is to experience in Leiden. On Tuesday they will do the Route '16 walk: a cultural route through the city taking in different cultural elements. On Wednesday they will have their first meeting with their new faculty or cluster and will get to know a bit about their study programme.
Leiden Freshers Festival
On Thursday the festivities will move to the University grounds next door to CORPUS, where the Leiden Freshers Festival will take place. There will be a good line-up and a varied programme: a yoga course and food court with food trucks, to name just a few of the options. The EL CID week will close on Friday with a barbecue and a last night party.
EL CID committee
Every year the EL CID week is organised by the EL CID / Vademecum committee. The committee is made up of six students, all of whom put their study on hold for a year. Besides organising the EL CID week, they also write a student magazine with useful information about the city.
