Carel Stolker re-appointed as Rector Magnificus and President
Rector Magnificus and President of the Executive Board of Leiden University, Professor C.J.J.M. (Carel) Stolker, has been re-appointed by the Board of Governors.
The Board of Governors has decided to re-appoint Carel Stolker for a second term of four years, with effect from 9 February 2017. Prior to taking this decision, the Board of Governors held discussions with the deans and the University Council, all of whom warmly endorse the re-appointment.
Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dr Nout Wellink, commented: 'Carel Stolker is a pure-bred academic with broad experience in teaching and research. He is a driven university president who is completely at home in the academic environment and in the local community in Leiden. He has successfully built on the course set by our university and is well able to garner the support of students, lecturers, researchers and support staff.’
‘The strategy for The Hague and the partnership with the Technical University Delft and the Erasmus University Rotterdam have entered a new phase under his leadership. Carel Stolker is also expanding our international collaboration, including with universities in Indonesia, China and countries in South America. The strong focus on alumni and the cooperation with the LUF are crucial for the university.’
