Melanie Fink at Conference hosted by the University of Cologne
On 16 March 2016 the German Society of International Law organised a Conference at the University of Cologne on the topic ‘Teaching International Law – up-to-date?!’ discussing education and modern methods of teaching in international law.
Melanie and her colleagues Markus Beham and Ralph Janik from the University of Vienna presented
the approach they chose for their textbook on international law ‘Völkerrecht verstehen’, published by Facultas in 2015. They made a case for the use of analogies with familiar concepts in other areas of law and for the inclusion of ‘cultural references’, e.g. when international law is referred to in films, documentaries, tv-series or the like.
