Phyto-pharmaceuticals and gene targeting
We exploit secondary metabolites of plant to develop pharmaceutical compounds and we genetically modify plant genomes to improve crops.
Phyto-pharmaceuticals and gene targeting
We combine efforts and expertise from a variety of disciplines to study the mechanisms of secondary metabolite production in plants. We use our insights to manipulate plant cells to act as ‘green factories’, synthesizing high volumes of pharmaceutically valuable compounds at high speed.
We also develop novel methods by which genetically modified plants can be produced with new genes integrated in the host genome via site specific or homologous recombination. We exploit our expertise on Agrobacterium-based vector systems to improve such gene-targeting methods and to generate transgenic crops with traits like insect and virus resistance.
