Minister Timmermans in debate with students on climate politics
-
'I climate! The EU and change of mindset'
On 17 november 2009, three students of the Minor Sustainable Development and the MSc programme Industrial Ecology defended their position statements on the upcoming climate conference in Copenhagen.
Minister Timmermans (European Affairs) encouraged the public to take an active role in the political discussions on climate change. He told the audience that we have the technical means and we know the policy measures that are needed to tackle the issue of climate change.
However, he also made clear that politics alone cannot solve the issue and that a change in mindset is needed on all possible levels: individual, organisation, country, EU and world.
The debate between the students of Leiden University and the minister was organized by CML and the ministry of Foreign Affairs. The debate took place in the Lorentzzaal.
A report by Casper Stubbé, a Master Industrial Ecology Student, is available.
