PRINS 2018…AND THE WINNERS ARE!

PRINS 2018 proved once again that for each and every BA International Studies student, as well as each of the commissioning organisations, this consultancy project is a ‘win-win’ proposition. In the end, six of the 30 participating student teams took top honours in this competition, selected by juries comprising Leiden academics and key members of the participating organisations. And the winning teams for cases from Starbucks, Google, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Transparency International have been invited to the organisations, to present their findings to larger audience.

We would like to congratulate all the teams who worked so diligently to find novel solutions to the world’s wicked problems, and celebrate the winners:

Commonland: “Scaling landscape restoration worldwide”

With this PRINS case, Commonland asked student consultancies to examine the factors that impact success and failure of large-scale landscape restoration, and to determine which scalable intervention models offer potential for increasing the impact of business driven landscape restoration and the transition to a restoration economy.

Teams: Make Soil Great Again, Bite the Dust, Common Sense, The Commoners

AND THE WINNER IS: The Commoners!

Starbucks: “Scaling up recycling in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA)”

Teams: Cupsidedown, Recyclestars, Starflakes, Espresso Patronum

AND THE WINNER IS: Starflakes!

Transparency International: “Supporting the victims of grand corruption in the world”

With this PRINS case, MFA asked student consultancies to take stock of which positive or negative measures, regarding which country, can be the lever to improve collaboration on migration, specifically regarding the readmission of illegal nationals. What are the main factors influencing appropriate use of the visa instrument to stimulate collaboration on readmission, taking into account the Dutch and the EU perspective?

Teams: V for Visa; Gone With The Visa; AdVISAbles; Visanaries; The Schengeneers; Vis a Vis.

AND THE WINNER IS: Visanaries!

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)/ New Approaches to Economic Challenges (NAEC) Initiative: “Climate change adaptation and resilience to flood risks”

With this PRINS case, OECD asked student consultancies to determine the best practices in building resilience to flood risks, offer  policy recommendations for building resilience to flood risks in particular countries or regions, and assign roles to multi-stakeholder ‘partnerships’ (of governments, companies, NGOs and international organisations) to help drive this resilience.

Teams: F.L.O.W.; Team Tsunami; Clim8; Rising Solutions; The Ark

AND THE WINNER IS: Rising Solutions!

Google: “Corporate citizenship and the future of digital skills and jobs in Europe”

With this PRINS case, Google asked student consultancies to determine what future skills will increasingly be needed in the next decade in North western European countries, what the best (on and offline) learning initiatives and practices in the region, and which partners could help Google help people overcome the digital skills gap.

Teams: Skill Up; 1E + 100; Google Parachute; Google Waypoint; Google Getco; Googgles

AND THE WINNER IS: Google Parachute!
