Peter Rodrigues on reception of asylum seekers outside EU
Rodrigues was asked to comment on the intention of certain Dutch political parties to examine whether the Netherlands, together with Denmark, could accommodate asylum seekers outside the EU, possibly in Rwanda.
In the interview, he explained that the Netherlands – unlike Denmark – is bound by European asylum law, which prohibits such forced transfers outside the EU. In addition, it remains to be seen whether Rwanda can be considered a safe country to which migrants can be transferred without risk of their human rights being violated.
