Bots like you
Can we study what makes us human through the eyes of a robot? Peter van der Putten and Maarten Lamers at the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science are collecting examples of robots with humanlike qualities: emotional, creative, curious, helpless and even religious robots.
In two recent podcasts van der Putten reviews a range of these robots made by their students and other researchers and artists, and speculates on what these bots tell us about ourselves and our future with them. Even more examples can be found on the web site ‘Bots Like You’. He was interviewed by Sander Pleij for the Vrij Nederland podcast MENS (in Dutch), as well as by the UK futurologist Tom Cheesewright, for the podcast series ‘Talk About Tomorrow’.
