Eric De Brabandere on ‘BNR Nieuwsradio’ about Myanmar and the Rohingyas
Myanmar must take immediate measures to protect the Rohingyas. This has been decided by the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
The Islamic Rohingya population are still at risk of being raped, murdered or driven away. The decision by the International Court of Justice does not mean that their problems have now been resolved, according to Eric De Brabandere, Professor of International Dispute Settlement, who spoke about the Court’s decision on Dutch radio programme BNR Nieuwsradio.
'These are inter-State proceedings that will go on for years. This interim decision is a first step; the next step is when the Court will declare whether or not it has jurisdiction to hold the proceedings. The third will be the decision on the substance of the case: was this genocide or not?'
