Jaap de Hoop Scheffer receives honorary title Minister of State
On 22 June 2018, Prime Minister Rutte announced that Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, Professor of International Relations and Diplomatic Practices at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), together with former ministers Sybilla Dekker and Winnie Sorgdrager, will become Minister of State.
The honorary title is reserved for people who have made themselves meritorious in the administrative field, usually politicians and directors with a long track record. A Minister of State gives political advice and helps with formations or delicate issues. With the appointment of this trio, the select group of Ministers of State enumerates eight people.
Jaap de Hoop Scheffer
De Hoop Scheffer was political leader of the CDA in the late 1990s and during the first cabinet of Balkenende he was Minister of Foreign Affairs. Afterwards, he served as secretary general at NATO for five years. Currently, de Hoop Scheffer is Professor of International Relations and Diplomatic Practices at the ISGA, as well as a lecturer at Leiden University College The Hague (LUC) and an ambassador of the Certified Public ManagerĀ® Program.
