QS World University Ranking
Since 2010, QS releases rankings by subject for the best universities in the world every year. The rankings are based on surveys among academics and employers. A university's research impact is also taken into account by looking at the number of quotations in academic publications.
Religious studies ranked as 40th
Leiden’s Religious Studies is ranked as 40th on academic reputation and research impact, leaving Radboud University, University of Amsterdam and University of Groningen behind.
Leiden’s Classics and History even rank 6th and 15th place. According to the QS ranking, Leiden University is the best place to study History in continental Europe, and the best place to study Classics in The Netherlands. Linguistics (23) and Languages (39) also do well.
Humanities go up in the list
In total, the Leiden humanities subjects (grouped under the category 'Arts & Humanities') rise 7 spots this year, to place 42. In the QS World University Ranking of Universities, released earlier this year, Leiden University is at place 109.
