Ben Van Rompuy comments on antitrust case against the International Skating Union

On 27 September the European Commission informed the International Skating Union (ISU) of its preliminary view that its eligibility rules under are in breach of EU antitrust rules.

According to these rules, skaters can face up to a life-time ban if they participate in speed skating events that are not approved by the ISU.

 

Ben Van Rompuy, assistant professor of competition law at Leiden Law School, advises and represents the complainants in this case; Dutch professional speed skaters Mark Tuitert and Niels Kerstholt. His comments on the European Commission’s announcement were cited by e.g. Reuters, De Volkskrant, and Global Competition Review.
