The Bigger Picture

Hope for New Life - Warren Richardson, World Press Photo of the Year 2015

During the annual conference of the International Data Responsibility Group, hosted by the Centre for Innovation in The Hague, today on 19 February 2016, we are proud to present The Bigger Picture.

The initiative is a collaboration with the World Press Photo Foundation and brings together the worlds of photography, data analytics and storytelling in a compelling visual platform.

Photographs give us information and feed our emotions. The Bigger Picture invites you to explore the deeper meaning of what you might not see at a first glance. What is the story behind the image? What else is there to know? What is the bigger picture?

Starting with World Press Photo’s award-winning photographs, users are drawn into a new type of visual analytics. With each click, we expand the way you can look at news, events, and issues.

The World Press Photo Foundation is a major force in developing and promoting the work of visual journalists, with a range of activities and initiatives that span the globe. ‘The essence of journalism is providing reliable information through the discipline of verification. ‘Today, when the world, the press and photography itself are undergoing seismic changes, the World Press Photo Foundation strives to help both visual journalists and their audience understand and respond to these transformations.’

The Bigger Picture is created in cooperation with LUST, a design studio based in The Hague. Throughout 2016, we will be starting more collaborations with photographers, data scientists, designers and storytellers.
