Two-Day Workshop: Governing Digital Platforms
The GTGC seed grant project on Governing Digital Platforms organised a two-day workshop on 18-19 January 2024, bringing together scholars and practitioners from diverse epistemologies, positionalities, geographic regions, and disciplines – with a focus on ethics and (political) philosophy, anthropology, and legal theory to engage in dialogue on this important topic.

Reinvigorating the United Nations
Valentina Carraro gave a presentation titled "Strengthening the Human Rights Council and the UN Treaty Body System" at the 'Reinvigorating the United Nations' Conference organized by the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna on January 27th and 28th. During the conference Valentina presented her research on human rights in the UN Human Rights Council and Treaty body systems. One of the most practical recommendations she offered was to create a shared database of recommendations delivered to each state by UN human rights bodies.

GTGC x Irish Embassy: Small States and Public Diplomacy, Lessons from Ireland’s Security Council Campaign
On 30 January, GTGC hosted a special event together with the Embassy of Ireland. As part of his visit to the Netherlands, John Concannon, Director General of the Global Ireland Unit of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, came to the university to engage in a discussion about Ireland's role in international diplomacy. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Alanna O'Malley and involved Ambassador Brendan Rogers, focussing in particular on Ireland's activities in the United Nations and in public diplomacy.
