Get a taste of Security Studies

Are you interested in international news and curious about how global events affect people, countries, and organisations? Do you enjoy thinking critically about important questions? Are you motivated to explore solutions to today’s security and safety challenges? Would you like to learn from experienced academics and professionals in the field? Then the bachelor’s in Security Studies could be the right choice for you.

Are you interested in learning more about this challenging bachelor's programme? Then our Experience Day on Saturday 29 March 2025 might be something for you. 

During this event, you'll get a taste of what it’s like to study Security Studies at our  campus in Wijnhaven, The Hague, or from the comfort of your home through our online option.

Programme

The programme is for prospective students and parents/ guides. 

Time	Activity
12:30– 13:00 hrs.	Arrival and Registration Find your way to our Campus Wijnhaven in the city centre of The Hague, The Netherlands and make sure to register at the registration desk.
13:00 - 13.15 hrs.	Learn more about the bachelor's during a programme introduction. Hear about student life from a student ambassador, sharing their personal experiences. On Campus  & via livestream
13.15 - 14.45	Attend a plenary lecture on chemical weapons, delivered by programme director Anneleen van der Meer, to experience what a lecture in the programme is like. On Campus  & via livestream
14:45 – 15:00 hrs	Break
15:00– 16:00 hrs	For students only: Mini skills lab (one session online, remaining sessions on campus) In this small scale interactive session, we will focus on one of the key skills taught during skills labs, which is being able to have an academic discussion. We will introduce you to a number of tools to help you think critically and build strong academic argumentation. We will put these skills to practice through an interactive discussion held at the end of the workshop on a current security case study.
15:00 - 16:00 hrs	For Parents: Q&A in room 3.46 Parents can ask all their questions to Anneleen van der Meer and the student ambassador Joris van Buiten. This part is not in the online programme.
16:00 - 16:15 hrs	Plenary closing for the programme (only on campus)
16:15 -17.00 hrs	Asking your last questions at the stand or in the room

For whom?

• Students from 4th, 5th, and 6th year of pre-university education (vwo) who may have already attended an Open Day, or or were unable to attend and/or wish to further explore the bachelor's programme in Security Studies.
• Students who are not yet fully certain about their study choice or are still undecided between two or three programmes and want to make a decision.
