This five-day workshop, funded by LDE Global, will address the urgent and multifaceted issues surrounding migration in the Americas. By fostering interdisciplinary and cross-border dialogue, we aim to deepen our understanding of migration governance, human rights, and the lived experiences of both migrants and local communities. We invite registered attendees to join us for the open sessions, which will be held on Wednesday, March 26, and Friday, March 28.

WORKSHOP: Understanding risk and resilience through collective introspection
- Audrey Esteban (Delft University of Technology)
Risk perception research has frequently used survey methods to assess a large population's perception of specific risks. While this method has produced significant results in understanding a population's perception of the existence or non-existence of risks, these targeted risk perception studies have pre-determined risks at their disposal, which may influence the participants' thinking. In this session, we intend to explore what existing and future risks are, how they cope, and what they aspire to address the perceived existing and future risks using a speculative design method we call "collective introspection" that allows participants to think about their situations. This will allow us to find interconnections or gaps in a community's risk perception based on government policy documents that have identified risks in the communities where participants live. The concept of "collective introspection" emerged during our experimental exercise at the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Governance, Migration, and Diversity 2023 conference. Creating a methodology that allows for "collective introspection" encourages individuals to 'think' about themselves and others, as well as 'feel' their experiences. When handled within a safe and open environment, it can help individuals grasp another point of view, potentially leading to "our collective understanding".
