On May 15th, Dr. Jatin Dua (University of Michigan) will be hosting a seminar-style workshop on his new initiative, Oceans Lab. Oceans Lab supports interdisciplinary research, writing and advocacy on maritime issues across oceanic spaces. Our projects focus on questions related to race, labor and inequality, climate change, migration and geopolitics.
The Lab
The Lab seeks to develop collaborative conceptual and methodological resources to study oceans. We build digital platforms and resources as well as communicate research to broader audiences. A key goal of the Oceans Lab is making legible and tangible the importance of oceanic spaces in structuring forms of polity, economy, and sociality.
Faculty and students with overlapping interests are welcome to join the seminar-style conversation. Dr. Dua will briefly introduce the initiative and its relation to his research, provide context about its perceived relevance, role, and impact, and then open up for a discussion. The conversation will be moderated by Benjamin Fogarty-Valenzuela (Leiden Anthropology).
The event is open to the general Leiden University community.
