Dr Machel's influential work has led to concrete and lasting change for women and children in Africa, making her a global inspiration. In recognition of her exceptional contribution to the field of children's rights, Dr Machel was awarded an honorary doctorate by Leiden University in 2021. She was nominated by the Faculty Board of Leiden Law School, on the initiative of professors of children’s rights, Ton Liefaard and Julia Sloth-Nielsen.
It is with great honour that Leiden Law School welcomes the visit of Dr Graça Machel to recognise and celebrate her efforts in advocating for the rights and well-being of children worldwide. During her visit to Leiden, a dedicated afternoon has been arranged for her engagement with faculty members and students at Leiden Law School.
On Thursday afternoon, Professor Janine Ubink, on behalf of the Faculty Board of Leiden Law School, will extend a warm reception to Dr Machel. Subsequently, a gathering will be convened, open to all faculty members and students of Leiden Law School. At this gathering, Dr Machel will deliver a brief address, while colleagues will present their ongoing research and educational endeavours aligned with the overarching theme of Dr Machel's visit. Towards the conclusion of the event, an interactive Q&A session will provide a platform for both staff and students to engage in dialogue with Dr Machel, fostering meaningful exchanges and insights.
