We are pleased to invite you to the 52nd Colloquium on African Languages and Linguistics (CALL 2023) to be held in Leiden from Monday 28 August up to and including 30 August 2023. 

The venue is Lipsius 2.27 and 2.28, and directions to the building can be found here.

Rüdiger Köppe will also be present with a book stand in 2.23. Lunch options nearby are the Pakhuis, Hortus Grand Café, Tabú, Café Barrera, see also here.

CALL is hybrid. If you want to attend virtually you need to register at [e-mail] to get a zoom link.

Program

Call for papers

Papers and research reports on all aspects of African languages and linguistics are welcome. We shall allow 30 minutes for the presentation of each paper, including (10 minutes) discussion. If you want to give a presentation, please send in the title of your talk before 1 June 2023 using the following form. In case the form does not open for you, you can send us an email with all the information needed: [e-mail].

Please make sure that you send us: 

1. your name
2. affiliation
3. title of the paper (in French or English)
4. your e-mail address
5. whether you come in person or present online
6. if you are planning to join the dinner on Monday evening and if so, if you have dietary requirements
7. anything for us to take into account preparing the program (need for sign interpretation, for example).

We do not need an abstract of the paper.

If you participate online, you can present live, or send your presentation as .mp4 video file before 15th August 2023 if you fear connection issues.

We strive for CALL to be an inclusive and accessible event. Please let us know before August 1 if you request interpretation in International Sign or another sign language. Feel free to contact us in case of other accessibility requests.

Registration

The registration fee will be 20 euro (10 euro for (PhD-)students), to be paid on the first day of the colloquium. On Monday evening a dinner will be organized (extra costs 35 euro, for 3 courses and 2 drinks). If you would like to attend the dinner, please let us know well ahead.

In case you need an official letter of acceptance of your participation, please let us know (via [e-mail]). If you need a visa to enter the Netherlands, make sure to start procedures well ahead of time. Unfortunately it is not possible to provide financial assistance.
