Algorithms for Network Visualization and beyond

DUE TO PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES THIS SEMINAR IS CANCELLED

Speaker:  Dr. Tamara Mtsentlintze (Utrecht University)

The field of network visualization involves the automatic creation of graphical representations of graphs, with node-link diagrams being one of the most intuitive examples. These diagrams feature network nodes represented as 2 or 3-dimensional objects, connected by (poly-) lines or curves to depict edges. Node-link diagrams are widely used in diverse fields, such as social science, bioinformatics, neuroscience, electronics, software engineering, business informatics, and humanities. Network and information visualization scholars have explored node-link diagrams from various angles, including designing diagrams with provable guarantees, empirically testing visualization algorithms, applying network visualizations to different domains, and evaluating visualization methods. In this presentation, I will provide a brief overview of the field of network visualization. Subsequently, I will discuss our recent research on visualizing dynamic weighted graphs as metaphoric maps, as shown in the image below.

Afterwards there will be drinks in the Foobar.
