My “behavioral and evolutionary take” (10 Nov 22) addressed much behavior and some evolution. This time the roles are reversed, with more room for evolutionary principles in descriptive work. I will reflect on Leiden linguistic traditions, consider the position of spoken data in oriental studies, and discuss some practical implications for the documentation of living languages.
