OSCoffee: Assessing robustness through multiverse analysis – Applications in research and education
When processing and analyzing empirical data, researchers regularly face choices that seem to be arbitrary. As such, interpreting the outcome of a single analysis can be tricky, because plausible alternatives remain unexplored. In other words, we’d like to know how robust a given finding is. To accomplish that, we can conduct a multiverse analysis, which involves methodically examining the various choices pertaining to data processing and/or model building. In this talk, Tom Heyman (from the Methodology and Statistics unit in Psychology) will provide concrete illustrations of multiverse analyses, and demonstrate how they can be fruitfully incorporated in an educational context, more specifically, student research projects.
