The Institute of Security and Global Affairs in cooperation with the Royal Netherlands Society for War Studies (KVBK) on Thursday, 16 March organises a lecture by Michael Mazarr on 'Deterring China: Challenges and Opportunities'

While the conflict in Ukraine deservedly receives much (academic) attention, it is important not to lose track of other rising geopolitical tensions. China not only strives to pair its economic power with military might, it also significantly influences the war in Ukraine by the level of political, diplomatic, and military support it might provide Russia. Moreover, the question of whether and how China can be deterred from invading Taiwan is becoming more pressing. Michael Mazarr will address these challenges and opportunities of deterrence in his lecture.
