On November 22, 2022, we launch 'Global Privateering', a pilot data collection regarding the Dutch ships captured by St. Malo privateers during the 17th and the 18th centuries. We will have a set of presentations regarding the data set, the development of the infrastructure in collaboration with IT students from the MBO Nova College in Beverwijk, the ongoing efforts to continue the build up of the data with join projects and the setting of a future research agenda departing from queries and methodologies of global history. The ultimate goal is to create world coverage of the phenomenon of privateering from the Middle Ages to the Modern period worldwide.
We invite you to take part of this launching and we welcome you to join us in the Academiegebouw at 14:00 or online (see Zoom details below). We also hope to interest you in further thinking about this pilot as an entry point for the collection of global data on privateering from your own research(groups).
