We are pleased to announce the LED3 Chemical Biology Talk of Prof. Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi. Prof. Bertozzi is one of the founders of the field of Chemical Biology by pioneering the performance of selective ligation chemistry in living systems over 20 years ago - reactions now known to many of you as click-reactions and/or bio-orthogonal ligations. Since these groundbreaking achievements of combining organic synthesis and biology, she has definitely not rested on her laurels.
Her recent research spans many exciting areas of Chemical Biology centered in the field of Glycobiology. It includes the development of new point-of-care probes for tuberculosis, the inception of a new way of degrading surface proteins and the identification of a carbohydrate-based immune checkpoint that can be targeted for cancer therapy.
Her continuing push for innovative developments, which is hallmarked by combining elegant organic chemistry and molecular design with the study of – increasingly complex – biological problems, has led to her receiving numerous awards, including most recently, the Heineken Award. This award celebrates true pioneers in their field. We, therefore, are very much looking forward to having her give a lecture in the LED3 Chemical Biology Talk series.
There will be coffee served before the talk and some drinks afterwards.
