Security Studies (BSc)
Frequently Asked Questions Matching
As part of the application process you will be invited to participate in a ‘matching activity’. This is to make sure that BSc Security Studies is the right programme for you. Matching is a compulsory part of your admission and application procedure.
The BSc Security Studies of Leiden University finds it very important that you carefully choose your study programme. By participating in the matching module, you will get a realistic idea of what the programme is about. Students who put time and effort into their choice of study programme are more likely to have success in the first year of the programme.
During the online matching module you watch several web lectures and answer multiple choice questions. This way you can get an impression of our programme.
Once you have completed the matching module, it is up to you to decide if you wish to finalize your application for our BSc Security Studies and start preparing for your studies in The Hague.
After you have registered in Studielink, the online learning coordinator of BSc Security Studies will send you an email within 10 business days with login details for the online matching module. Please note that the matching period starts in February. As of February invitations for the matching module will be sent.
In case you have not received an invitation to the matching module within 10 business days following the submission of your application, please contact securitystudies.spoc@fgga.leidenuniv.nl
The matching activity takes place on the Brightspace platform. For a short introduction video to Brightspace and more information on Brightspace for students, watch this video.
Participation in the compulsory matching module is mandatory and should be finished before 1 August (23:59 hrs). Participation in the matching module will take place online, so you can decide yourself when and where to plan the hours required to complete the matching. You can only participate once. If you do not participate in the module, or if you do not complete the module, your request for registration will be declined and you will be unable to start with the BSc Security Studies programme.
If you find out that the BSc Security Studies programme is not a good match for you, you may wish to reconsider your study choice. However, do note that the advice you will receive, is not binding. You may therefore still apply for the BSc Security Studies.
The rules and regulations that cover matching are part of the University Regulation on Student Registration and Tuition fees.
