The new cabinet threatens to cut nearly a billion euros from higher education. This not only endangers academic work, it is a disaster for the Netherlands itself. The proposed penalty on study extensions and other financial measures will heavily impact students and will reduce education accessibility. They are the future teachers, traders, policymakers, journalists, healthcare workers, and more! University research is crucial for the Netherlands and Dutch prosperity.
The importance of our research
Stop the catastrophic cuts to universities!
With great concern and urgency, a growing group of scientists from Leiden University invites you for a short lunchtime speech in The Hague (Wijnhaven) or Leiden (BplusC Nieuwstraat) as part of our flash campaign "Stop the Catastrophic Cuts to Universities!" The university's Executive Board fully supports this campaign.
The planned cuts to universities are devastating and threaten to eliminate essential studies, faculties, and even entire universities. This will destroy crucial knowledge and insights for Dutch society, now and in the future.
Campaign Goal: We aim to inform policymakers, journalists, MPs, and the general public about the devastating impact of these cuts and mobilize them to take action.
Lunchtalks: During lunchtime, scientists will explain in just 15 minutes the necessity of their field and why their research is invaluable to society. Addressing core questions:
-Why should society fund your work?
- What does the Netherlands lose if this research disappears? After the presentations, there will be room to ask questions and engage with the speakers.
Spread the word: Besides the lunchtalks, we are launching a series of videos where scientists explain the value of their research and what is lost with cuts. These videos will be widely shared on social media. Help us spread the message even further by sharing these videos.
Your presence and support are crucial. Together, we can make a difference!
